Festival 2002: Wednesday 16 January - £5:
Witness have recently
released their highly lauded second album 'Under A Sun' on Island Records,
which includes the single 'Here's One For You', a track featured in the
hit movie 'American Pie 2'.
The Times has described the album as "a perfect companion for roadtrips
through the dark nights of the soul" and "one of the great rock albums
of the year".
A melodic and spirited album that moves from anthemic surges to reflective
elegies, it showcases the sore throated and angelic vocals of Gerard Starkie
and the inspired guitar playing of Ray Chan. The band constantly draw
comparisons to REM, Big Star, The Verve, Ryan Adams and Travis and the
reason is clear ... they write timeless tunes.
"an album of thrilling, crafted, eloquent, enchanting, lyrical, expansive,
honest, elegiac, robust, thoughtful, extravagant rock 'n' roll, the likes
of which comes along once in a blue moon" - Uncut.
"lovinglydefined tunes" - Mojo
Plus
guests : Salt Flat & The Unspeakable Turks
Salt Flat are
led by the seasoned and observant songs of Neal Cook (formerly of The
Wildflowers) and who emulate the likes of Wilco and Whiskeytown from a
UK perspective with ease.
The Unspeakable Turks are driven by the songs of Rob Stanier and move
between the elemental guitar songs of the likes of Lowgold to the more
starry sound of Sparkelhorse.
