Led by the
vocals and guitar of Andy Yorke (brother of Radiohead's Thom) , their
name comes from the cult Hal Hartley film whose downbeat intensity and
dark humour perfectly reflects the band's brooding nature.
Hybrid elements of Talk Talk, Peter Gabriel, Throwing Muses and Elvis
Costello were noticed in their sound and in '96 they signed to Virgin
records.
They achieved two top twenty hits with the singles 'Higher Than Reason'
and 'Solved' and the album 'Almost Here' also broke the top twenty.
The band have now returned to the Oxford label 'Shifty Disco' to release
their new album 'sorrythankyou' from which the single 'landslide' will
be taken.
The album captures an incredible range and depth of emotions and exudes
redemption, twisted spirit and defiance.
