Following his last
whistle stop tour of the uk and his stunning debut solo album 'Heartbreaker'
now firmly in so many more hearts, Ryan Adams' May visit to the uk is
being anticipated at fever pitch.
The former 'Whiskytown'
main man (whose album 'Strangers Almanac' is cited as a masterpiece),
recorded Heartbreaker in Nashville and attracted guests on the record
from 'Emmylou Harris' and 'Kim Richey' to 'David Rawlings' and 'Gillian
Welch'.
The album has since been written about as having a mood comparable to
that of 'Blonde On Blonde'. It's songs move between romantic folk-punk
to tortured country-tinged laments. His press release expresses that "his
voice both physically and lyrically, is like a street poet's coming out
of a skate punk".
Ryan has gone on record confessing that Heartbreaker is fuelled by the
separation and loss of both a girlfriend and New York City.
Quotes about
the album include:
"if you combined Gram Parsons soul Keith Richards spirit Steve Earle's
growl and Paul Westerberg's heart you'd probably wind up with someone
like Ryan Adams" "the Kurt Cobain of new country"
"a fine successor to Jeff Buckley's throne, a visionary rock troubadour"
- NME
"it's an Edward Hopper painting that sings a Jack Kerouac novel that dances
a Robert Altman movie that plays guitar one hell of a treat" - UNCUT :
Album Of The Month
"haunted and hurting" - MOJO
"the finest Americana album of the year" - THE TIMES
"blessed with a beguiling voice, one of the years most distinctive roots
rock exercises" - THE INDEPENDANT
Guest support for the night is CARINA ROUND
- her debut album 'The First Blood Mystery' is out on May 14 on animal
noise records.
