McALMONT & BUTLER

Prior to the return of this duo as a band at the V2002 festival, The Songwriters Festival shall be presenting a very rare show as an acoustic duo, which will be an absolute treat by which to experience the three and a half octave range of David McAlmont and the distinctive guitar play of Bernard Butler.

They previously released the album The Sound Of McAlmont & Butler in '96, which included the fabulous singles Yes and You Do. Following this, David contributed Diamonds Are Forever to David Arnold's Bond Themes album, worked with Craig Armstrong and completed his solo album A Little Communication.

Bernard, who began his career with Suede, now signed to Alan McGees Creation label and released the albums Friends And Lovers and People Move On, along with working with Aimee Mann, James''Tim Booth and Heather Nova. It's all come full circle now and they have signed to EMI to release the single Falling and album Bring It Back, which is a bold, funky, sassy, simmering soul and swinging pop record.

Support comes from Pina, an Austrian who lives in Ireland, is signed to Peter Gabriels Real Worl label and has her debut album Quick Look out now, which fuses alternative rock, gothic folk and psychedelic country. She has toured with Ani Di Franco, Afro Celt Sound System and most recently Indigo Girls.

Further support comes from Baz, who's 'undersoul' sound can be heard on her album Psychadelic Love, which contains the hit Believers and is produced by Guy Sigsworth (Madonna, Seal).
From a musical family, her dad was a jazz musician, her brother is DJ/Producer Dave Angel and her sister is rap star Monie Love. Her influences are cited as Carole King, Marvin Gaye, Kate Bush and Stevie Wonder. She's recently toured with Sophie Ellis Bextor.
