Founder,
writer and vocalist of the highly respected San Fransisco band AMERICAN
MUSIC CLUB, he went solo in '96 releasing the momentus album '60 Watt
Silver Lining'.
During his time with AMC he acquired the reputation as one of the most
poetic, essential, enduring and visceral songwriters of the last decade
... often attracting the tag 'genius' ... which his fan base wouldn't
doubt in the slightest.
A hauntingly evocative singer and composer, he combines the energy of
punk, the pastoral beauty of folk and the melodrama of lounge music to
build one of the most impressive and darkly poetic bodies of songs in
the modern pop canon.
He transcended convention through his unflinching view of existential
desperation, rawly expressing himself, sometimes tempered by world-weary
humour and compassion.
Comparisons are made to Nick Drake, Love, Tim Buckley and Big Star, by
way of the songs dreamily tinged and bruised life of emotional outsiders
and lost souls.
The AMC masterpiece album 'Everclear' was awarded 'Album Of The Year',
and he, 'Songwriter Of The Year' by the highly influential US magazine
'Rolling Stone'.
He
has also written an album with REM's Peter Buck entitled 'West'. An unmissable
rare outing and festival highlight !
