LAMBCHOP (KURT WAGNER)

Songwriter and vocalist of intriguing Nashville collective whose spectral Alt. Country cross pollinates with sweet soul flavours in understated genius.

Wagner's honey roast baritone vocal expresses a haunting soulfulness, as his subversive tales and twisted observations on love identify a contemplative, even eccentric charm of their own.
Lambchop have been one of the most acclaimed bands of the last few years for their innovative and affirming songs, that have come from the albums 'How I Quit Smoking', 'Thriller', 'Hank', 'What Another Man Spills' and this years 'Nixon', which has been dubbed an Alt. Country 'Pet Sounds', no less.
The press regularly cites them as contemporaries of Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips, Sparklehorse, Will Oldham's Palace Music, Smog and Pavement and Kurt in the same breath as Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, Tim Buckley and Leonard Cohen.
"Some of the most mesmerisingly beautiful music you'll ever hear. Their masterpiece" - Uncut on Nixon
"The most perfect blend yet of their Alt. Country roots and their obsession with Soul" - Mojo on Nixon
"Accessible, clever and full of rare integrity" - Q on Nixon
"An astonishing work" - NME on Nixon
"An exraordinarily rich and intoxicating mix of styles from Stax to Psychadelia, the sweetest Soul to the dankest Country noir, handsome orchestral Pop to feedback Psychosis, far out Funky struttin' to world weary Introspection and gorgeous romantic Ballads" Uncut on Nixon
