Songwriters
Festival 2002: Thursday 17 January - £5:
Fronted by the fabulous
songwriting skills and textured vocals of brothers Danny and Julian Wilson,
the band moved from Loose Records to the mighty BMG label RCA earlier
in the year and had their albums 'Road Music' and 'True Love And High
Adventure' re-released to even greater acclaim.
Their songs are a heartfelt patchwork of americana influences that draw
equally from Memphis soul nuances as Nashville skylines, evoking artists
such as Mercury Rev, The Beach Boys, The Flaming Lips, Van Morrison, Phil
Spector, The Band, Gram Parsons, Whiskeytown, Grandaddy and Lambchop ...
the masters of head and heart music.Danny
has described them as " modern psychedelic country-soul".
They achieve the elusive qualities of timelessness by way of their themes
being grounded and essential whilst their music remains yearning and dreamy.
"an album that glories in the song" - Mojo.
"astounding harmony arrangements and songs that roll along with mellow
joy" - The Inedependent.
"every song overflowing with tenderness and persuasive hooks" - NME.
"both albums deserve a place on your record shelves" - Uncut.
"overwhelming in their scope and heartaching in their emotional tenderness"
- Metro.
