Festival 2002: Tuesday 15 January - £5:
Oxford 5-piece, fronted
by Robin Bennett, who release via their own Truck Records label with the
support of Virgin Records and who have been supported by Steve Lamacq
on RADIO ONE, even before their first major single is released.
So far they have released the very fine 'Love Is Here', which has seen
them effortlessly straddle the musical map from Neil Young and The Band
to Mercury Rev and Grandaddy with a william Orbit-esque production qualities.
The music media are already predicting the band to explode in 2002, which
makes them a certified 'one to watch'.
"they hint at great things ... the first glimpse of something that promises
to be very special indeed" - NME.
"single of the week" - THE INDEPENDENT.
" wistful, melancholic music that should carry them to the top" - DAILY
TELEGRAPH
Plus guests : New Electrics & Philip D Barlow
New Electrics have recently been putting the finishing touches to their
eagerly awaited album, having had their previous ep's become RADIO ONE
favourites. A highly energising live band, they write instantly familiar
tunes that are given many exciting twists and totally deserve what is
hopefully their imminent success.
Philip D Barlow can probably lay claim to being the most alternative solo
singer-songwriter to appear at ronnies. Nothing challenges more than the
truth and Mr Barlow delivers observations that can de-construct you in
a flash and guitar work that never let's you know what's coming next.
