It looks
set to be an interesting year for these hometown guys.
Their story of less than favourable twists and turns is perhaps a little
over documented - the early days of The Sea Urchins, through the Focus
(Acid Jazz) times etc.- but is it all about to change ?
Their debut album entitled "Slippin' Out" is released by Dishy records
and has already been championed as album of the month in the NME (November
2000), alongside The Beatles "1" album.
This album is a fabulous progression from the out-takes record that Dishy
put out last year called "Laughing Mostly" which saw The Guardian present
a full-page review whilst expressing their songs as having the feel of
Love, Buffalo Springfield and The Byrds and, in a contemporary vein, that
of Beta Band and Super Furry Animals.
Slippin' Out has been described by the NME as "an absolute peach" and
the brothers James and Patrick Roberts as "holed up in Birmingham writing
songs of aching wonder".
Their line-up is completed by Bird-drums, Louis J Clark-Keys and Fiz-Bass.
The album was recorded in fifteen days at DEP (UB40) Studios and co-produced
by Lenny Franchi (Bjork, Tricky and My Bloody Valentine).
"an album of exquisitely soulful guitar music underpinned by rushing string
arrangements" - UNCUT
