BILL JANOVITZ (BUFFALO TOM)

Lead singer and guitarist of the influential band Buffalo Tom, who sprang from the American alternative scene and survived every fashion by keeping their integrity in writing timeless songs like Taillights Fade that beared their inciteful and anthemic hallmark sound.

Born in Queens, New York, Bill moved to Massachusetts where he met musicians who shared his passion for bands like Husker Du, The Replacements, Neil Young and Talking Heads.

Buffalo Tom began gigging with equipment from J.Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., who also produced their debut album. Throughout the period of their next four albums, they developed a hardcore live following and were contemporaries of The Lemonheads, Teenage Fanclub, The Pixies, Pearl Jam and Belly.
They scored a hit in 99 with a cover of The Jams' Going Underground. 97 saw the release of Bill's debut solo album, Lonesome Billy, that included musicians from Giant Sand and Calexico and saw his gravelly, emotive voice mix with instinctive and memorable songs of gut feelings and rough and ready honesty.
