Legendary,
ground-breaking Scottish troubadour who revolutionised the acoustic guitar,
bringing to it unsurpassed combinations of virtuosity and eclecticism.
He was also a leading light of the 60's brit-folk revolution, playing
the Isle Of Wight festival twice, along with Jimi Hendrix.
Considered by many to have been the most affecting element in Pentangle
- whose other members were John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Danny Thompson
and Terry Cox.
Between this band and his solo work, he has now released twenty-one albums.
His latest album "Crimson Moon" features Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and
Bernard Butler (Suede), who have both championed his influence (along
with Noel Gallagher, Jarvis Cocker and Nick Drake) and he has also been
subject of a Channel 4 documentary, entitled Dream Weaver, and a biography
by Colin Harper titled Dazzling Stranger.
Jimmy Page once said: "At one point I was absolutely obsessed with Bert
Jansch. When I first heard that LP (1965), I couldn't believe it. It was
so far ahead of what everyone else was doing. No one in America could
touch that".
Neil Young also once said: "As much of a great player as Jimi Hendrix
was, Bert Jansch is the same thing for the acoustic guitar … and my favourite"
.
