Festival 2002: Saturday 19 January - £7:
Bap recently performed
at the prestigious festival at London's Barbican - 'Beyond Nashville',
to great acclaim. He has also been on the road with Van Morrison, Suzanne
Vega and Beth Orton and his track 'Moonlight Kiss' has been heavily featured
in the film 'Serendipity' (which stars John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale).
He began his career in the band 'Energy Orchard', whose strong sound hinted
at elements of Rory Gallagher, Thin Lizzy, The Pogues and Van Morrison.
His solo career began when Steve Earle invited him to record for his label
and he would also produce. The album was called 'Domestic Blues' and and
featured guest vocals by Nanci Griffith and a duet of 'Dirty Old Town'
with Steve himself.
The follow up 'Hillbilly Shakespeare' featured all Hank Williams tracks
and his most recent album 'Lonely Street', further illustrated how this
irish rover constantly blends the disparate elements of musical persona
to supreme effect.
Plus Special Guest
Mark Nevin
Mark Nevin wrote the
worldwide hit 'Perfect' (sung by Eddi Reader') and the album 'First Of
A Milllion Kisses', for which he won Brit Awards for both. Next up he
recorded under the name of Sweetmouth with Brian Kennedy on vocals, a
truly sublime collection of songs. He then took a back seat and wrote
countless songs which were recorded by the likes of David Bowie, Morrissey,
Kirsty MacColl, Ringo Starr, Mica Paris and Lloyd Cole. He then returned
with his first solo album entitled 'Insensitive Songwriter' and has recently
completed it's bold and lush follow up - 'The Mighty Dove', which features
Ian 'Mac' Maclagan (The Faces/Rolling Stones) and Robin Aspland (Van Morrison).
The album's lyrics tell of endings and beginnings, loss and redemption
and hurt and forgiveness.
"astonishingly accomplished songsmith ... the elegant simplicity of Nevin's
songs is beguiling, inspired, graceful, vulnerable ... they will certainly
make your life a better place" - Mojo.
Plus Guest John
the Revelator
A both un-nerving and beautiful set of songs from the pen of Nathan Tromans,
that satisfy lovers of L.Cohen to Smog and Johnny Cash to Will Oldham.
