The band was formed
in '95 by Aidan Moffatt (vocals) and Malcolm Middleton (multi-instrumentalist),
in Falkirk, Scotland. They soon signed to Glaswegian label 'Chemikal Underground'
(already home to 'The Delgados'), who saw them as a frighteningly 'different'
act and they soon released their debut single 'The First Big Weekend'.
'Steve Lamacq'
declared it 'the best record of the decade.
Their debut album 'The Week Never Starts Round Here' followed to critical
acclaim.
In '98 after their hit with the re-mix of 'David Holmes'' 'Don't Die Just
Yet', they released their second album 'Philophobia', where Moffatt further
barred his soul and Malcolm crafted beautiful guitar motifs.
They moved to 'GoBeat' for their next album 'Elephant Shoe', which was
a well documented torrid affair and they also had a track on the film
soundtrack for the film 'Acid House', which also featured 'Primal Scream',
'Oasis', 'Nick Cave' and 'Beth Orton'.
The band returned to Chemikal Underground for their new and recently released
fourth album 'The Red Thread', which includes the single 'Love Detective'.
The album title is a belief from ancient eastern theology, that there
is an invisible red thread that links soul mates through time.
The record is a melodic, brooding and magnificent masterpiece.
It is intense, raw and visceral and not for the weak willed or faint hearted.
It maintains their vision of stark reality, intimately told in observations
from behind life's contrived layers.

songs warped by reality, goose-bump real" - TIME OUT
